At Tellent, we use a structured approach to ensure we're delivering the most valuable features to our customers. Our prioritization process helps us balance customer needs, business impact, and development effort, so we can continue improving the product in meaningful ways.
1. Using ICE to prioritize requests
We use the ICE method to help us decide which features should be built first. ICE stands for Impact, Confidence, and Ease:
Impact: How much will this feature help achieve important goals? We consider factors like new business opportunities, customer retention, and strategic alignment.
Confidence: How sure are we that this feature will deliver the intended value? We rely on data from customer feedback, research, and user testing.
Ease: How simple or complex is it to design, develop, and launch this feature? We consider the resources and time required for implementation.
Each of these elements is scored from 1 to 10. The higher the total ICE score, the higher the feature is prioritized.
2. Customer feedback is key
We highly value customer input when deciding what to build. We collect feedback directly from users via feedback.recruitee.com, which has a major impact on our decisions. When customers tell us what they need, it helps us make informed choices about what to prioritize next.
3. Research & development process
Our process is based on the Shape Up framework, and it follows these steps:
Frame: We start by understanding why a feature is important and how it aligns with customer needs and business goals.
Shape: We then explore potential solutions and decide on the scope of the feature, making sure it’s feasible.
Bet: This is where we decide which features to prioritize based on customer feedback, the ICE score, and our strategic goals.
Build: Finally, we move into development, focusing on delivering the feature within a set timeframe.
