How to create journey types

Learn how to create and manage custom journey types, the foundation for creating Journeys.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Journeys come with three default types:

  1. Pre-onboarding

  2. Onboarding

  3. Offboarding

However, every company is unique — and so are your HR processes. You might want to create journeys for other recurring activities, such as promotions, crossboarding, relocations, or pay raises. To make that possible, you can easily create custom journey types that fit your organisation’s needs.

Creating a custom journey type

  1. Go to Settings → Journeys and click + Add journey type.

  2. Enter a descriptive name for your new journey type and choose an icon. You can also add a short description (optional). Click Next step to continue.

  3. Define access levels for each role or create a custom access level if needed.

  4. When ready, click Save journey type.

You can now start building a Journey using your newly created journey type.

Access levels

Configure access by specifying which employees or teams can view and/or edit Journey items.

  1. Click on Journeys and select the module you wish to update the access level for.

  2. Click Edit access levels to modify its fields.

  3. To save click Save changes.

📌 Note: Learn more about access levels in User roles and access levels.

Settings

You can view and manage existing journey types anytime by going to Settings → Journeys. From here, you can adjust details or archive outdated types.

Access levels

Adjust the access level for each role, or create a custom access level if needed, to control who can view or edit the journey type.

Manage

  • Edit the name, description, or icon of a journey type.

  • Archive a journey type you no longer need.

    • When a journey type is archived, all journeys and templates under it become inaccessible.

    • You can later unarchive it to restore access (all data will become available again) or delete it permanently (all data will be lost).

    • A journey type must always be archived before deletion.

📌 Note: Default journey types, such as pre-onboarding, onboarding, and offboarding, are built into the system and cannot be deleted.
