An introduction to Goals

Create, manage, and track progress on performance goals throughout the year.

Goals are measurable outcomes that can be assigned to an employee, a group, or an entire team. They outline what should be accomplished within a certain time frame.

Goals in Grow do more than serve as notes. They allow you to:

  • Track progress using different measurement types, such as percentages, currency, or time.

  • Set clear targets with a starting value and an end goal.

  • Prioritize what matters by assigning a priority level or weight.

  • Work within a timeframe by linking goals to a specific review period.

How Goals help

Goals help connect day-to-day work with performance reviews.

Because goals can be included in review forms, they give managers and employees a clear, measurable way to assess performance. This makes reviews more objective and reduces guesswork during evaluation conversations.

Create a goal

Before you start, remember that an HR administrator determines the rules for setting goals in your company.

Your company may use one of two modes for goal creation:

  • Hierarchy mode: Employees can only create goals for themselves, and managers can assign goals only to their direct reports.

  • Free mode: Any employee can create and assign a goal to anyone in the company.

Note: If you want your goals to appear in your upcoming evaluations, you must create them before your HR team starts the review campaign.

To create a goal:

1. Go to the Goals tab in the sidebar.

2. Click New goal.

3. Fill in the fields: Give your goal a clear title and description.

4. Choose your tracking: Select your Target unit (like percentages or numbers) and set your Target value.

5. Set the timeframe: Select the correct review period and add any specific start or end dates.

6. Click Create.

Note: Your HR admin can customize exactly which optional fields appear during creation, such as Priority, Weight, Start value, Dates, or Sub-goals, so your screen might look slightly different depending on your company’s settings.

Create a goal from your dashboard

You can add new goals directly from your main dashboard overview.

1. Go to the Goals tab on your dashboard.

2. Click New goal.

3. Follow the same configuration steps as a standard goal setup.

Any goal created directly from the dashboard will always be automatically assigned to you. If you need to create and assign an objective to a different team member, you must build it from the primary Grow > Goals page instead.

Create multiple goals

If you need to set up several goals at once, you can keep the goal creation window active to speed up your workflow.

1. Navigate to Grow > Goals in the main navigation menu.

2. Click New goal.

3. Fill in the fields for your first goal.

4. Before saving, toggle on Create another at the bottom of the window.

5. Click Create goal.

The goal creation window will remain open on your screen, and the settings defined for your previous goal—including the owner, target parameters, and time period—will be automatically maintained. You can then modify the title or specific metrics to quickly build your next objective.

Edit a goal

As priorities change, you may need to adjust your goals.

1. Open the Goals list and click on the goal you wish to modify.

2. Update the target values, weight, or description.

3. Click Submit.

Track a goal’s history and timeline

You can review a complete audit trail of every update, modification, or setting adjustment made to a goal since its creation.

1. Open the Goals list and click on the goal you wish to review.

2. Scroll down to the Updates section.

Here, the system displays the author, the date, and the exact nature of each modification.

Tip: Use this space to collaborate and stay aligned. You can add comments directly to any status or progression update on the timeline—all notes are saved chronologically alongside the history of the goal.

Delete a goal

If a goal is no longer relevant or was created by mistake, you can remove it permanently from the platform.

1. Navigate to Grow > Goals in the main navigation menu.

2. Locate the goal you want to remove and click the three-dot icon (...) on the right side of its row.

3. Select Delete from the dropdown list.

4. A confirmation prompt will appear—click Delete goal to confirm your choice.

Important: Deleting a goal is a permanent action and cannot be undone.

Goal Deletion Permissions

  • Employees: Can delete a goal as long as they are the original creator.

  • Managers: Can delete any team member's goal by navigating to My Team > Goals.

  • HR: Have full permission to delete any goal across the entire organization.

Duplicate an existing goal

You can duplicate an existing goal if you want to assign it to a different person or reuse a setup you have already configured and simply tweak its details. This is highly efficient for rolling out identical targets across your team.

Duplicate from the list view

1. Navigate to Grow > Goals in the main navigation menu.

2. Click the three-dot icon (...) on the right side of the goal you wish to copy and select Duplicate.

3. A sidebar will open on the right where you can adjust the copied goal's data, parameters, or assignee before officially creating it.

4. Once you are satisfied with the updates, click Create goal.

Duplicate while viewing a goal

You can also duplicate an objective while actively viewing its specific details page.

1. Open the goal you want to copy.

2. Click Duplicate goal button in the upper-right corner of the page.

3. Modify the information within the duplication sidebar.

4. Click Create goal.
