Managing goals during evaluations

Learn how administrators and managers can configure, evaluate, and define employee goals during performance reviews.

Incorporating goals into your evaluation campaigns helps keep employees aligned with key business objectives. In Recruitee, administrators can set up global goal parameters, while managers and employees can assess past performance and define new targets directly within review workflows.

Evaluate goals during reviews

Managers can review active goals during evaluation campaigns when the Review goals option is enabled in the review framework.

This workflow takes place across three main interview phases:

1. Preparation phase: Both the employee and manager access goals associated with the evaluation period directly within the review framework. Both parties can assign a status and record progress levels independently.

2. Face-to-face phase: During the discussion, the manager and employee review individual progress and agree on final ratings. The manager validates the final evaluation for each goal.

3. Validation phase: Once the interview is finalized, the evaluated goal statuses update automatically on the employee's profile page.

Define future goals in reviews

When the Define goals option is enabled in the review framework, managers and employees can set targets for the upcoming period directly during the evaluation process.

Important: Setting future goals during reviews is only possible if goal creation permissions have been granted by an administrator in company settings.

Here is how future goal setting works during an interview:

1. Preparation phase: The employee and manager propose a preliminary list of upcoming goals.

2. Face-to-face phase: Both parties review proposed goals during the exchange. Reviewers can create new goals using Create Goals, or hover over existing items to edit (pencil icon) or delete (trash icon) them. The manager then confirms the finalized list.

3. Validation phase: Once the review is submitted, approved goals automatically publish to the employee's profile under My goals.

Goals in new reviews

New reviews let you design your own evaluation workflow instead of using a fixed one-on-one or 360 format — combining Feedback, Meeting, and Signature steps, adding as many participants as needed, and controlling exactly what's visible at each step. Any workflow template you've already built in classic reviews carries over and can be reused in new reviews.

At the moment, new reviews don't yet include goal questions. If reviewing or setting goals is part of your evaluation process, run that campaign as a classic review for now. This is actively being built and will roll out to new reviews soon — you won't need to recreate your campaigns when it does.
