Journey templates help you save time and reduce repetitive work by allowing you to create reusable templates. Instead of building each journey from scratch, you can create templates—such as one for each department—and use them whenever you need to start a new journey.
Creating a journey template
In the sidebar menu, go to Journeys → Library → Templates tab and click + New template.
Select a journey type, then click Next.
Enter a clear, descriptive name for your template. You can also add a short description if you’d like, then click Create template to continue.
Now you can start creating steps and tasks inside that template.
Create from scratch
Click Create from scratch to begin.
Enter a clear and descriptive name for your step. You can also add a short description if you’d like.
(Optional) Set the start and due dates for your step. These can be tied to key events such as the employee’s start date, the end of their probation period, or their last working day. When you’re ready, click Save.
Next, start adding tasks to your step. To learn more about creating tasks, see How to create tasks in journeys.
When you’ve finished setting up your steps and tasks, click Save changes — your template is now ready to use!
Create from library
Click Load from library to begin.
Select a reusable step you’d like to include and click Add. If you haven’t created any reusable steps yet, take a look at How to create reusable steps to learn how.
Once you’ve finished building your template with reusable steps, click Save changes — your template is now ready to use!
After creating your journey template, you’re all set to build your first journey. Learn more in How to create a Journey.
Manage when steps become available
You can control when each step becomes available to employees by adjusting its start and due date settings.
To do this:
While setting the start and due date of a step, click Other step.
Choose a step from the dropdown menu.
Select when this step should start — either right after completing the previous step or a set number of days after its completion.
This setup helps you guide employees through the journey in a clear, structured order, ensuring each step follows logically without overwhelming them with too many tasks at once.
Managing and editing journey templates
Once a template has been created, you can manage and adjust it as needed. Here’s what you can do:
Edit
Update or refine steps and tasks to keep your workflows accurate and up to date.
Manage
Change the template’s name and description. You can also permanently delete the template if it’s no longer needed.
Delete
Permanently deleting a template cannot be undone, so proceed with caution.
⚠️ Important: Active journeys are not affected when you edit or delete a journey template.
Access levels
Specify which employees or teams can view and/or edit Journey items:
Go to Settings → Access levels.
Click on Journeys and select the module you want to update.
Click Edit access levels to adjust permissions.
When finished, click Save changes.
