Journey surveys let you ask employees for feedback at key moments in their journey, such as after onboarding, during a role change, or when they leave the company. Use the answers to find out where a process needs improvement, for example, an onboarding step that new hires struggle with, and fix it.
The feature works across Grow and Manage:
HR users and managers build the survey in Grow, add it to a journey step in Manage, and view the results in Grow.
Employees answer the survey from their journey step in Manage.
Note: Journey surveys are available to companies that use both Grow and Manage. The feature is being rolled out gradually, so if you don’t see it yet, contact our support team. To build surveys, add them to journeys, and view results, you need the HR or manager role in Grow.
Build a survey in Grow
Start in Grow, where you write the questions employees will answer.
Go to Engagement > Journey surveys. The list shows every survey you’ve created and how many responses each one has.
Click New survey and give it a name, for example, “Onboarding check-in”.
Add your questions. For each question, choose an answer type, for example, a scale or a text answer.
Drag questions to change their order. The preview on the right shows what employees will see.
Click Publish.
Tip: Keep it short. A few focused questions, “Did you have everything you needed on your first day?”, get you more complete answers than a long form.
Add the survey to a journey in Manage
Once your survey is published, add it to the journey step where you want to ask for feedback.
In Manage, open the journey or journey template and go to the step, for example, the last step of your onboarding journey.
Click Add task or automation and select your survey.
Choose who answers: the employee whose journey it is, their manager, or a specific person.
Save the step.
The invitation goes out when the step becomes active. The journey editor shows this next to the survey.
Note: On a journey template, you choose a role (such as Manager) rather than a person. When a journey starts from that template, the survey is assigned to the employee in that role.
What employees see
When the step becomes active, the assigned person gets a notification, and the survey appears on their journey step in Manage.
Only the assigned person sees a button to answer. Everyone else with access to the journey sees the survey’s name and status.
Clicking the button opens the survey in Grow in a new tab.
Once submitted, the survey shows as done on the journey step.
Note: Answering is optional. An unanswered survey never blocks the journey from moving on.
View the results in Grow
Go to Engagement > Journey surveys in Grow and open a survey. The results are available in two views — Summary and Responses — and you can export them as a spreadsheet.
Summary
One card per question, with the average score, a chart of how the answers are distributed, and the most recent answers.
Responses
A table with one row per response — name, scored answers, open answers, and date. Sort or page through the table, and click a row to open one person’s full set of answers.
Export
Click Export to download everything on screen as a spreadsheet, including names.
Important: Journey surveys aren’t anonymous. You see who gave each answer, both in Grow and in the export. This is by design — the feedback is there to improve your process, and context matters. Make sure employees know their answers are attributed before they fill in the survey. This is different from engagement surveys, which can be anonymous.
Edit a survey that’s already in use
You can change a survey at any time, even while journeys are using it: reword a question, reorder questions, or add and remove them. Changes apply immediately, including in journeys that already use the survey and for employees who haven’t answered yet.
Note: You’ll see a warning before any change that removes a question. Removed questions stay visible in the results, so earlier answers never disappear.
Archive a survey
When you no longer need a survey, archive it.
Go to Engagement > Journey surveys in Grow and open the survey.
Click Archive.
After archiving:
The survey can’t be selected for new journey steps in Manage.
It moves out of the default survey list in Grow.
Its results stay available.
Journeys that already use it continue unchanged.
How teams use Journey surveys
Onboarding: Add a “First month” survey to the last step of your onboarding journey, assigned to the new employee. If several new hires say they waited a week for their laptop, you know exactly which step to fix.
Role change: On a promotion-to-manager journey, add one survey for the employee and a second one assigned to their manager. Comparing both sides shows where the transition needs more support.
Offboarding: Ask departing employees for feedback on their last day. Because answers are attributed, you can follow up with the employee or their manager where it’s useful.
